AGF Marks One-Year Remembrance Of Former National Coordinator, Late Adeleye With Public Lecture

The Asiwaju grassroots foundation honoured its late coordinator, Comrade Adeleye Akintola in Ado-Ekiti. The leader died last year in lagos during the reelection campaign of President Buhari and his vice, Yemi Osinbajo.

Members from the states and local government graced the occassion to honour the late coordinator in the state capital.

The national Coordinator of the Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation, Comrade Adunni Olateju emphasized that Otunba laid down his life to serve Ekiti state, agitated and fought for Nigeria youths to participate in decision making. "I want to urge Nigerian Political leaders to give Youths the opportunity to hold political power and offices to showcase our talents that we are indeed ready to lift this country to greater heights."he said


In his keynote address, the special Adviser to the Minister of Interior, Hon. Bola Ilori lauded the late comrades'  focus and capacity. He said he appreciated his zeal to entrench progressive democracy in all part of the country . Represented by his personal Assistant,  the special adviser said" That's why it's important that we must emulate his character, focus when it comes to youth in politics. I remembered his involvement in elections in Osun, Ondo and even ekiti to ensure that progressives continue to take charge  in those states"

In his brief remarks, the house of Assembly member representing Ekiti west, hon. Johnson Bode-Adeoye who said his relationship with the late otunba was more like a family urge that the insinuation that the government and people of Ekiti state have forgotten what otunba stood for be set aside, said the house of Assembly as a whole is doing everything to ensure the late family is doing well. "After my first attempt in 2015 that we lost the election, I went back to my office in Bayelsa but to my amazement, otunba called me to come back home and start gearing up for 2019 election. I wondered how he would think like that but he told me 'the 2019 elections starts in 2015'. Today, he is no more to enjoy what he has laboured for"


Delivering his Address as speaker,  Comrade Ajijola Oludare said the late Otunba Adeleye was dear friend, comrade of note, quintessential nation builder and a progressive par excellence. "Every youths can't be a partisan politician. We must not encourage the culture of seeing politics as meal ticket. Our youth should take their civic responsibility and obligation with more seriousness. Our discerning youth should limit themselves to the competitive and subterranean scheming to become personal Assistants, caretaker Chairman or Special assistant. Nigerian youths should more than ever demand for accountability from our political leaders. They should set development agenda strive for excellence and elect credible and visionary people into office. These are the endearing virtues Otunba Adeleye stood for" Comrade Ajijola said.


In his own address, the coordinator of the Afenifere Renewal Group Ekiti chapter stressed that the late Otunba should be celebrated for his brief stint in politics because he made an indelible impression. "If it was for money, Otunba would have not have joined the Progressive party. My first national recognition came from Otunba. He gave me the recognition through the AGF. The person that represented me sat beside Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. That's the type of his personality."

Also, the Chairman, Hospital management board, Rev. Adebayo Orire eulogised the focus and tenacity of the late otunba Adeleye. He said people of the south west must come together to present a viable candidate for the presidential election. "He would want to go to Lagos, he would have just 5000 naira. We have to do more. The future of the country is in the youth. Our politics is ethnocentrics, religiocentric,  finaanciocentric and imaaturely paraded. I am here to see that the south west remains in the forefront." He further urged that the future of the south west remains with the youths.
