The Nigerian Universities Of Education Student Association ( NUESA) of University of Nigeria in affliation with Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Ikere Ekiti (BOUSTI), honoured Hon. Makinde Araoye with an award of Youth Advocate in recognition of his unrelenting efforts in entrenching peace and promoting youth in government. The student body presented the award to MKD at a Seminar and interactive session organised by the students body for the final year students of the school. Presenting the award, the NUESA 001 Adeyeye Olubunmi BUMKIT who described Hon. Araoye as an exceptional,grassroots-oriented, humble, humane, peaceful and generous leader, said: “You do not discriminate in your services as a leader; We the students are proud of you and God shall continue to provide and uplift you”. The NUESA President disclosed that the award was also in appreciation of MKD's “resilience, sleepless nights and uncompromising decision to provide support where necessary for the youths and Students ”, adding that “ because you have timely deployed unprecedented human and material resources to support youth advocacy, the youths can now boldly say we have a representative in government, courtesy of your commitment”. Makinde who gave a capturing talk on “Skills acquisition: a panacea to tackling high rate of unemployment in Nigeria” Said with a 33.3 % rate of unemployment in Nigeria, Nigerian Youths need to look beyond their formal education and embrace innovative skills that creates new opportunities for employment. Skill acquisition has been proven as a veritable tool in combating unemployment world over. It is better to have a skill and not need it, than to need a skill and not have it. He thanked the Student body for recognising him and also donated money for the completion of their NUESA Building that has been under construction for 7years.
